Soundspace Studios

Hi! We're Will & Hugo, two musicians transforming spaces into professional soundproofed studios. Our mission: provide free access for students and affordable long-term rentals for working artists. We believe music thrives through community and collaboration - whether you're just starting out or building your career. Help us purchase the materials to make these creative spaces a reality!
1. Who are we?
Hey, we’re Will & Hugo - two friends who met through music at university and never looked back!
From the moment we connected, we shared a passion for creating musical memories, not just for ourselves, but for others too. We graduated, grew up, and stayed close. Then, after we both faced health scares around the same time, something shifted. Life felt too short to spend it doing anything other than what you truly love.
So, we both quit our corporate careers within data and software engineering - and took a leap of faith to pursue music!
That's when Hugo started making drum & bass as Silloh - and has since gained a residency at Ministry of Sound, gigs at Fabric, support from UKF, and day-to-day he runs Symmetry Recordings as Label Manager. His music has been played by DJs such as Sub Focus, Netsky and many more. He also produces house music under his alias Hollistic.
Will has always loved techno, but got really immersed in the scene when he moved to Amsterdam and started producing during Covid. His live project wonky.clocks (drum machines, synths, lots of FX) has played the Gouden Reigers Film Awards and is a regular at Earthworks Festival in the UK.

2. What is the plan?
Soundspace was born in 2025 - the result of months of dreaming, researching, planning, and building something we genuinely believe in. Between us, we bring experience across engineering, project management, accounting & finance, the music industry, and construction. It's rare that a project brings together all of your skill sets and your passions - but this one does.
Our goal is simple: to create an accessible space for anyone working in sound.
We're building 15 soundproofed music studios in Overamstel - a professional, purpose-built space for anyone working in sound.
The studios will offer long-term rentals for professionals, alongside dedicated space for students, available free of charge. We believe access to quality facilities shouldn't be a barrier to creativity - a commitment that was baked into the ethos of Soundspace from day one.
The build kicks off in May, as soon as we've raised the funds to purchase materials, and we're expecting doors to be open in September / October. We'll be getting our hands dirty ourselves, supported by a community of volunteers who share our vision.
The finished studios will be professionally engineered under the supervision of an experienced studio designer - making Soundspace the perfect home for producers, musicians, synccomposers, and anyone working in sound.

3. Where are we now?
The short answer? Ready.
After two years of preparation, every piece of the puzzle is in place. Financial projections, business plan, risk mitigation, 3D models, material purchase lists, build timeline, legal and compliance - it's all done.
We've conducted thorough market research, negotiated a great deal on our Overamstel location, and worked closely with studio designers and acousticians to bring the concept to life.
We know this project works, because we've stress-tested it from every angle.
Finding the right location was the hardest part. We needed somewhere large enough to be commercially viable, but small enough to keep costs - and therefore prices - affordable.
The demand is already there. Our market research shows that long-term studio rentals have significant waiting lists across the city, and we've already got a community ready to walk through the doors!
We've kept pricing as affordable as possible by design, and we have a solid marketing plan to make sure the momentum continues once we open.
But the part we're most excited about? Once the studios are up and running, we can start delivering on the heart of the Soundspace mission - opening the space free of charge to educational institutions. Giving people at the start of their careers access to professional facilities, and the chance to connect with the community around them, is why we started this in the first place.

4. What is the funding needed for?
We're looking to raise €122.000,- and every cent has a purpose.
Here's where the money goes:
Building materials - insulation, timber framing, drywall, flooring, and ceiling materials; everything needed to build 15 studios that sound as good as they look
Setup costs - the practical groundwork of turning an empty space into a fully operational studio complex
Tools and equipment - the machinery and kit needed to carry out a build of this scale safely and to a professional standard - speed and efficiency is key.
Insurance - full coverage in place before a single nail goes in. Hope for the best, plan for the worst.
Health & Safety training - manual handling, first aid, and general construction safety certified across the team before the build begins.
Security - CCTV, an alarm system, and access control installed from day one so the space and everyone in it is protected around the clock.
Rent during the build - we move into our Overamstel home on May 1st, and the clock starts ticking…
We also made the shocking decision to bring in a contractor for the electrical work. Not cheap - but we're quite fond of being alive.
We've already put in every bit of savings we have.
This isn't a project we've stumbled into - it's one we've sacrificed for. But to get through the door on May 1st and start building, we need the community behind us.
Everything we raise above the cost of the materials and the setup will go towards improving the space:
Cozy furniture for the communal areas
Setting up the instrument library with some cool synthesizers
And most importantly, better equipment for the free student space
And we know this might not be the most professional thing to say in a funding pitch - but we mean it from the bottom of our hearts: thank you. To anyone who backs this project, whether it's €500 or €5,000, you're not just funding a building. You're helping create something that will give musicians, producers, and students a place to grow for years to come. We can't put into words what that means to us.

5. How can you help and what do you get in return?
Every contribution brings us one step closer to opening the doors of Soundspace - and we want to make sure that anyone who helps us get there feels properly valued for doing so.
We're offering a loan structure, with 5% annual interest. But beyond the financial return, we've put together a range of rewards to say thank you in a way that feels a little more personal than a bank transfer.
Your annual repayment comes with a party. Each year, we'll host an evening at Soundspace where investors are invited to meet the musicians they helped give a home to, hear what they've been creating, and celebrate together with a slightly heavier wallet than when you arrived. In addition to this, all investors are welcome to visit the complex any time.
And depending on your tier, here's what else is on the table:
Branded merchandise: lovingly designed by Will's wonderfully creative wife
Free or discounted studio access: ever fancied trying DJing? Always had a song idea you'd love to bring to life? Now's your chance
Naming rights and a supporters plaque: leave your mark on Soundspace, permanently
A private party at Soundspace: music, food, and good company, all taken care of
Launch night invitations: be there on the night it all begins, and meet the community you helped build
We know that backing a project like this is an act of faith as much as it is an investment. We don't take that lightly, and we never will.

6. Closing remark
We're so close we can almost hear it.
Two years of planning, sacrificing, and believing have brought us to this moment. Now, we need your help to make it real.
The contract is signed. The deposit is paid. This is it.
If our crowdfunding campaign doesn't succeed, the contract is void and everything we've worked for disappears with it. There's no Plan B - just this moment, right now.
However you choose to show up - backing us financially, sharing our story, or simply rooting for us from afar - it matters more than you know. Soundspace isn't just a business; it's a community built around music and the people who live for it. And there's a place in it for you.
Have questions, ideas, or just want to be part of the journey? We'd love to hear from you - reach out at will@soundspacestudios.nl and we'll get back to you personally.
Thank you for reading. Thank you for believing. Now let's go build something.
